Science and Technology

We are aware of the shortfall of women working in the area of science and technology and the need to actively encourage women already in the field.

Girls need to have support to take up science as a career. We held a seminar with eminent speakers in these fields. We formed a network of our members working in science and technology. They can offer support to each other, raise issues and advise the membership on actions needing to be taken.

How we made a difference: the SISTER network (Soroptimists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Research) has enabled us to be knowledgeably aware of emerging issues e.g. the genome and drug rape.

We still press for: promotion of Science and Technology as major career options for girls. The importance of open debate on scientific and technological issues.
