Women's National Commission
The Women’s National Commission is the official, independent, advisory body giving the views of women to the Government.
As the only official, national body working on women’s equality the WNC has a special role to fulfil and an important remit within the equality machinery in the UK. It's independent voice, bringing the informed voice of women to government, especially women who may not represented by mainstream organisations, is unique. It is the only organisation of this kind in the UK. It ensures that women’s views are taken into account by the government and are heard in public debate. The WNC is the only UK women’s organisation that is fully funded by government, but is independent in its views and is an advisory Non-Departmental Public Body. A publicly appointed Chair and Steering Group head the WNC and a small team of civil servants (the Directorate) manages the work.
Women in Public Life
The WNC organised eighteen breakfast events across the nine English regions throughout the year to raise the awareness of the impact women can make in public life, providing advice and practical tools to help women counter some of the obstacles faced in getting through the application process. their report, entitled Women in Public Life, may be downloaded here.
UKPAC Partnership
The UKPAC is a partner in the WNC. Partners have contact through the WNC newsletter and through service on committees. For their latest newsletter, plus back editions, please click on this link.
To maintain a channel of communication, the UKPAC elects a representative, who reports to the committee at their four meetings throughout the year and corresponds with the members directly when information is sent to her. Issues of importance to the UKPAC can also be raised with the WNC, or with other partners.
