SI Taunton
Annual Swimathon
The Taunton Club has been running an Annual Swimathon since 1987, during which time they have raised nearly £500,000 for local charities, making it one of the most successful fund-raising events in the South West.
Pictured left is Rhona Ashton (in the swimsuit) who is joint President of the club with Jane Fitzgerald in T-shirt), together with the members of the Swimathon committee, the Mayor and Mayoress and the Sports Centre Manager and his assistant from Taunton School, (where the clubs holds the event and who are its major sponsor).
Club member writes book on the Taunton Refuge
Jean Hole, Past President of S I Taunton and founder member, past secretary and chair of the Taunton Women's Refuge, has written a book about the Refuge. It is a moving account of its history and highlights the value of the Refuge to the women and children who seek sanctuary there.
Pictured is Jean with fellow Soroptimists Sheila Naylor (past secretary and chair of the Refuge) and Anne Kearle who has been a member of the committee for many years. Another SI Taunton member, Joan Dowell, wrote the original constitution and past S I Taunton member, Val Nuttall, was also a committee member in the past. So it could be said that the Taunton Womens Refuge and SI Taunton are inextricably linked – (for the best of reasons!)
