Volunteering as guides

Midland Arden and Chase - Volunteers at the RNIB event

Members from Midland Arden and Midland Chase Regions, including including two 'Soroptimisters' from Central Birmingham volunteered as guides for blind and partially sighted visitors at the Queen Alexandra College Sight Village Exhibition at New Bingley Hall Exhibition Centre in Birmingham in July.

All agreed that it was a wonderful opportunity to offer real sercice in the community and would recomment it to Soroptimists, family and friends.

The volunteers were co-ordinated by Jan Hemlin, the UKPAC representative for Midland Arden, and Pauline Wright, Regional President of Midland Chase.

Bra Collection for Fresh Start

Midland Arden - Bra bank

30 kilos of bras!

Regional Programme Action Committee chairman, Jan Hemlin (pictured left), launched this year-long project in response to International Past President, Lynn Dunning's, challenge in Glasgow.

Clubs around the Region have so far collected 30 kilos of bras and brought them to the March Regional meeting. The Project is being undertaken in with BCR Textiles, who give £1 per kilo of bras.

The money raised will go towards the Regional project FRESH START; a three-year project that aims to raise £15,000 to build a dormitory for girls in Kampala, Uganda. This is the only Rehab unit for women in the whole of Uganda, which will offer support and training for women and girls to enable them to start a new life.
