SI Rhyl and District
Art and Writing Competition
The Women’s Section of the Royal Saudi Arabian embassy in London, and Soroptimist International of Rhyl and District organised a competition involving art and writing in schools.
The aims of the competition were:
*To celebrate the commonality of children from different cultures.
*To build bridges of goodwill and multicultural understanding.
*To raise awareness of our own, and other people’s environment.
Schools of the winning entries received £500. The overall winners, submiting six pieces of art and six stories, on the theme 'Dessert Creatures', received prizes of £250 each and the possibility of their work being published. All winners, together with their parents, were invited to a prestigious prize giving ceremony at the Tower of London on the 23rd of February 2007.
The prizes had been generously donated by HRH Prince Mohammad Bin Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz, the Royal Saudi Arabian Ambassador to London.
All British and Saudi schools in Britain were invited to take part, and the competition was open to pupils in years three-four, five-six and seven-nine.
