Long Term Theme

Study Day 2012 brochure front cover

We have chosen as our theme for the 2012 UKPAC Study Day the new international focus - Educate to Lead - a collaboration of Soroptimist members around the world, working to raise the status and improve the lives of women and girls through education and leadership.

The speakers and workshop leaders will present on topics such as social enterprise, mentoring, leadership and improving performance in the workplace.

The booking brochure was made available at the Federation's conference in Brighton in October and can be downloaded by clicking on the image left.

Following on from the successful introduction at the Reading Study Day in 2010, we are once again offering this facility. For the first time, together with being able to register and (securely) pay on-line, there is the facility of booking accommodation at the university at the same time as you register.

Early Bird discount

Early bird

We have decided to extend the early bird discount until 1 June.

PLEASE NOTE: pre-booking and pre-payment is essential. We accept cheques and on-line card payments but, in line with the Federation's policy, we cannot offer a 'pay on arrival' option.

Accommodation

Leeds Trinity bedroom

Extremely comfortable single en-suite rooms are available in the university’s newly-built All Saints Court, which is on campus; indeed, all areas are very close together.

And afterwards?

The Yorkshire Region has put together an excellent tourist leaflet, outlining some options for exploring the area after the Study Day. Do go to the link to get some ideas on what to see while you're in the area.

The 2010 Study Day

Last year's UKPAC Study Day was held in Reading on Saturday 10 July 2010.

The theme of the Study Day was our flagship project: VAW-SIN (Violence Against Women - Stop It Now). Almost 200 delegates attended the day, in temperatures soaring to the early 30s. First keynote speaker, Daniel Blake's (Policy Manager from Action on Elder Abuse) young son was taken to hospital, seriously ill, the day before the Study Day and so Daniel was unable to be with us. Chairman, Sue Biggs, and Federation Programme Director, Hilary Ratcliffe, put 'Plan B' into operation for that section of the morning. Delegates requested that their good wishes be passed on to Daniel.

Lady in Red

The day concluded with a compelling performance by the Certain Curtain Theatre Company, which has been at the forefront of the use of theatre and drama within the field of domestic violence since 1995. The performance we chose was Lady in Red, which was shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award in 2005. Extensively researched and highly acclaimed, Lady in Red combined superb dialogue, a compelling plot and a powerful performance to take the audience on a moving and thought-provoking journey with 'Rose' - enabling them to explore one woman's attempts to leave an abusive relationship and the barriers she faces. The performance lasted for 45 minutes and was followed by an after-show discussion. For more information, visit their website). Journalist, Samantha Webster, has written a report of the Study Day, which also appeared in the September 2010 edition of Soroptimist News.
