Messages on Haiti
Soropitmist International of Great Britain and Ireland
Dear President Eliane,
On behalf of the members of SIGBI, may I offer our sympathy at this time of great sorrow, following the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Our media has highlighted the magnitude of the disaster but what we cannot begin to imagine is the sorrow and loss, the fear and desperation of the inhabitants of this island. Haiti’s inhabitants have suffered greatly from the aftermath of natural disasters in recent years; this can only serve to add to their pain. Please convey to our Soroptimist sisters in Haiti that they are very much in our thoughts following this very tragic event. Please keep us informed of the situation.
In friendship,
Jackie Mosedale
SIGBI Federation President
SIGBI has sent SI Europe a donation of £2,000.

Dear Soroptimist Sisters,
We are deeply saddened at the horrendous earthquake that has caused so many deaths in Haiti. We would like to extend our heart-felt sympathies to our sisters in Haiti and reassure them that we will support them throughout this disastrous ordeal. We share the grief of all those who have lost loved ones and hope for the recovery of those who have been injured. We are profoundly affected by the devastating consequences this tragedy has and will have on Haiti’s inhabitants and we will provide any assistance needed.
Dr. Eliane Lagasse
SI/E President 2009-2011
Soroptimist International of the Americas
Dear Soroptimist Friends,
We too have been saddened by the devastating news of the Haitian earthquake. The leaders, members and staff of Soroptimist International of the Americas with to express our sympathy to the citizens of Haiti who have suffered unimaginable losses. Being aware of the already dire circumstances in Haiti prior to the earthquake, our hearts go out to the people of the country - especially the women and girls. We know from experience that women and girls will be disproportionately vulnerable to the effects because of existing gender inequalities that are magnified during and following any disaster.
We will offer our support as Haitian women work to rebuild their lives and communities following this devastating disaster. SIA has made a $10,000 donation to SIE to assist with their efforts to provide disaster assistance to women and girls. Furthermore, SIA will accept donations to fund future projects to help women and girls in Haiti recover from this disaster. Finally we will encourage our clubs to advocate to ensure that the special needs of women and girls are considered, planned for and met as the international community joins together to assist Haitians in rebuilding their communities and their country.
Sincerely,
Cathy Sandiford, SIA President

Dear President Nadége B Jaques, Dear Elisabeth Woolley, Dear Soroptimists in Haiti,
It is with deep sorrow, that we all follow the reports in the media about the earthquake, that killed and injured so many people and destroyed so many buildings in your city.
On behalf of Soroptimist International I share Anusha’s prayers for the wellbeing of the members in your club and of your families. Please give our warm thoughts and love to the members, when it is possible for your to get in contact, as we understand that the infra structure is more or less broken down.
We hope and expect that the international society and humanitarian organizations will give you and the citizens in Port-au-Prince a first help and support to the injured and the homeless.
Please receive once again our deepest sympathy and our best wishes, that you, your city and its citizens will be able to see the light at the end of the dark tunnel.
In friendship

We have all been appalled at the devastation that the Haiti earthquake has caused; the suffering is unimaginable with an estimated one third of the population now homeless. I am not sure whether there has been any news yet from our sisters in SI Haiti, but I will bring you news if I hear. There is only one thing that the majority of us can do at this stage, and that is to dig into our pockets and donate to those groups who are in a position to assist with the relief efforts.
Sue Biggs,
Chairman - UKPAC
