Licking Lassa Fever

This Project was set up four years ago by the Region to establish community education and environmental programmes in communities in Sierra Leone. The aim, to provide clean water and effective sanitation through new wells and latrines, rat-resistant food storage containers and water bottles, tools and seeds for villagers to grow their own food and for outreach workers to teach villagers how to combat this disease and help themselves.

Working with their implementation partners, the World Health Organisation and the British and Sierra Leone Red Cross, the Region has been campaigning to raise funds for this project.

Their jewellery recycling has raised thousands of pounds for the project and, over the years, members of the Region have even climbed mountains and jumped off mountains to promote the project. As Licking Lassa Fever comes to an end, a magnificent £79,000 has been raised.

SI Wales South's target is £80,000; if you would like to help them reach it, do read the latest report, where you will find details of how to donate.

Dee Jenkins said, "Sue's daughter was the bravest; she climed a 64-foot pole to do the final wire. Ann Hodgson was the bravest adult, completing 11 wires. Me? I was scared stiff!"
