Links with SI Karachi

The club established a Friendship Link with SI Karachi. SI Karachi Central granted Scholarships to the seven most outstanding students in Chanesar. In 2008 they granted scholarships to 38 female students studying in Chanesar Goth. Ten of the students were from the Sindhi Medium School and 28 from the Urdu Medium School. Students were also given a new uniform and dresses.

It was at this point that SI Bridgend became involved and the club voted to support another five girls every year – at a cost of £20.00 per girl. If they raised more money then they gave Talat the go ahead to use the funds in whatever way the school needed support.

Fundraising began in earnest with cards and corsages being made and with members putting their hands in their pockets to buy them. As a result by the time the Barbados conference came around (October 2008) they had raised over £200.00 – enough to sponsor the girls and to buy much needed books.
