SI Winchester and District
BAGS OF MONEY RAISED FOR THE AIR AMBULANCE!
Following the huge success of their first charity fashion show, the club proudly presented £6,000 to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, one of their chosen charities this year. The Air Ambulance is a vital service to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is deployed when speed is essential or when there are difficulties in accessing the patient by any other means. Lynne Dadley, Project Support Officer for the H&IoWAA said “We are extremely pleased to have been chosen by the Winchester SI as their charity of the year. Without organisations like these supporting the Air Ambulance it would be unable to fly seven days a week, undertaking on average three calls each day making a total of over 820 missions in the first 13 months of operation.”
Just as pleasing for club members was the £750 raised by modelling and then selling the spectacular WoW bags at the show. These bags are so named because they are produced by the women of Wenceslao, a resettlement community in the Philippines and because they are a wonderful example of how rubbish, which would otherwise end up as landfill, can be reused to make products which are both attractive and useful. The money raised goes directly to the women who produce the bags. The income they derive from their talent for sewing makes a very significant difference to them and their families.
