South West & Channel Islands
There are 18 Clubs (click on individual clubs, below, for more information) in the South West & Channel Islands Region (SWCI) covering an area from Bristol in the West to Taunton in the East, Cirencester in the North to St Austell in the South as well as two offshore Islands, Jersey and Guernsey. Given the variety of locations, the communities in which Clubs work can be very different. But they share a common goal – to create a better world for all by making it a better world for women and children.

Although the distances involved can make it difficult to organise joint events, they have worked together on a variety projects, usually chosen by the Incoming Region President.
Region Project 2003-2005
In November 2003, following a proposal by Region President Heather Bills, it was agreed to undertake a longer term project, taking healthy eating and reducing obesity as its theme. Members agreed that they wanted to give service to their local communities. The Project continued in President Irene Hockin’s year with Clubs undertaking a variety of activities including providing fruit in junior schools, supporting a cooking project in secondary school and looking at members’ own eating habits.
Region Project 2005-2006
President Jill Wiseman wished to support the Hope & Homes Charity. Up-dates will be posted shortly.

Club Projects
As well as supporting International, Federation, UKPAC and Region projects, all Clubs continue to develop and support projects in their local areas.
All Clubs give both service and funding to a number of organisations - Women’s Refuges, Hospices, Carers and the Elderly to name but a few. In many cases, Clubs were instrumental in setting up such facilities and have continued to provide the officers and committee members who run these organisations. Clubs have also supported overseas projects including providing dental equipment to Eastern Block countries, water and sanitation equipment in Nepal, HIV/AIDS projects in Zimbabwe and South Africa and school projects in Africa.
In 2004 a number of charities and worthy causes benefited from fund-raising activities in the Region, generating over £105,000. But members also give service. Based on the results of a survey, members give more than 70,000 hours of voluntary service per year in their local communities.
Their activities generally combine fun and friendship with hard work. Together we do make a difference.
